Two $500 scholarships are made available through the special efforts of the Education Committee and Montana Farmers Union. The winner must be a high school graduate planning to attend a university, college, community college or college of technology in or out of state; the scholarship must be used the year it is awarded; and Montana Farmers Union family membership dues must be current.

All scholarship applications must be sent to and approved by the Montana Farmers Union Education Committee. Application deadline is May 1, 2008.

The Flathead County Farmers Union offers a $500 scholarship. Please contact county schools for award criteria or the MFU state office. Application deadline is May 1, 2008.

The Chouteau County Farmers Union offers a $500 scholarship. Please contact county schools for award criteria or the MFU state office. Application deadline is May 1, 2008.

Bud Daniels Memorial Scholarship

Daniels had a life-long devotion to improving the lives of rural Americans and to keeping farmers on the land. He served as Montana Farmers Union president from 1989-1993, was National Farmers Union vice president in 1992, and in 1999 he received the Meritorious Service Award for his contributions to Farmers Union and to American agriculture.

The Montana Farmers Union will present a $500 scholarship in memory of Bud Daniels (1928-2000) made available through the efforts of the Education Committee and MFU.

The winner will be selected using the following criteria:

Applicant or parent must be a Montana Farmers Union member
Applicant must be a Montana resident
Applicant must be a sophomore or above attending a Montana university, college or vocational technical college
Applicant must carry at least 12 semester hours or 18 quarter hours
Applicant must have a GPA of 2.8 or better and maintain that GPA during the scholarship year

Also evaluated will be the applicant's scholastic achievement, community involvement and an essay.

NFU Foundation Stanley Moore Scholarship

As a boy, Stanley Moore (1921-2000) traveled with his grandfather, C.C. Talbott, who was a principal organizer and the first president of the North Dakota Farmers Union.

Moore held many leadership positions throughout his life, including president of North Dakota Farmers Union in 1975-1987, vice president of National Farmers Union from 1980-87, and chairman of the National Farmers Union Insurance Co.'s board from 1975-95.

Moore was a strong advocate of education and this scholarship provides a lasting memorial in honor of his achievement and dedication to Farmers Union.

Eligibility:

Open to Farmers Union members and their children
Any high school senior, college student or non-traditional student seeking funding to attend a two-four year accredited college, university or technical school for any area of study.

Hubert K Seymour Scholarship
Hubert K. Seymour was a Farmers Union leader throughout his life at both the state and national levels. He served the Illinois FU as secretary-treasurer for eight years and as vice president for 12 years before stepping down in 1990. Mr. Seymour was actively involved in the politics of agriculture and dedicated to the fight for parity. Throughout his service, Seymour did much to promote and protect the rights of family farmers throughout Illinois and the U.S. He died in 1994. This scholarship is his family's way to paying a living tribute to his dedication, hard work and commitment to Farmers Union and the family farmer.

Eligibility: This scholarship is open to all graduating high school seniors who are continuing their education in either a two-year or four-year accredited college or university for any area of study. Must be a Farmers Union member.

Award Criteria: Academic record; social & community activities; a written essay on the significance of rural values in America on your life. Phone interview with finalists.

National Farmers Union Internship Program
Eligibility: enrolled college student and FU member.

FUMP Foundation Stanley Moore Scholarship
Eligibility: open to Farmers Union members and their children within the five-state area of MN, MT, ND, SD, WI. For any high school senior, college student or non-traditional student planning to attend a two-year or four-year college, university or technical school.
Criteria: academic record of student, social and community activities, essay or oral speech (video), priority given to ag study, phone interview of finalists.
Amount: $1,500 (several will be awarded)
