FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 4, 2006

MFU President to Resign
GREAT FALLS, MT (October 4, 2006) – Montana Farmers Union (MFU) President Brooks Dailey today announced his decision to resign as MFU President effective October 28, 2006, citing the desire to be closer to his family. Dailey, who works part time for the organization, has been commuting between Sacramento, California and Montana.
Dailey made the following statement:
“Serving the Montana Farmers Union as president for the past three years has been an honor and a privilege. This is not a decision I have made lightly, but one that comes after careful thought and consideration.
“Between spending more time with my family, actively farming and working to fulfill all the duties as part time president, I could see where down the road all would suffer if I didn’t take action.
“I am very proud of the work performed by all at the Montana Farmers Union, and know they will continue to serve the organization well. It is the organization’s work for family farmers and ranchers and rural communities that keeps us strong, and it is that value of family that made this choice for me simple even as the loss of serving as MFU President will leave a heartfelt void in my life.”
Dailey also served as a director on the National Farmers Union Board, National Farmers Union Foundation secretary/treasurer, National Farmers Union Service Association, National Farmers Union Membership committee chairman, Midwest Insurance Agency LLC, partner, Montana Cooperative Development Center vice president and Montana Agriculture Innovation Center chairman. A special election will be held to elect a president to serve the remainder of Dailey’s term (one year). Next year at the 2007 convention the president’s position will be elected for a two-year term, thus returning to its regular rotation.
