Junior Youth Receive Awards at Montana Farmers Union Convention

GREAT FALLS, MT (Oct. 31, 2007) – Three Montana Farmers Union (MFU) junior youth received the Mildred Stoltz Scholarship Award at the organization’s 92nd annual meeting and convention at the Education Luncheon in Great Falls on Saturday, October 27, 2007.

Mildred Stoltz was MFU’s education director for more than 18 years.  During that time she developed education curriculum for the organization.  In her honor, the Farmers Union Oil Company of Great Falls – now Mountain View Co-op – set up a fund to recognize youth for their leadership skills and cooperative spirit.  Each year youth are selected from Hill County Junior Camp and from Arrowpeak Junior Camp, which is located in the Highwood Mountains.

The 2007 Mildred Stoltz Recipients are:

Madison Hembd, Havre, granddaughter of Judy Hembd

Tom Long, Great Falls, son of Rita and Rex Coldren

Emily McCune, Great Falls, daughter of Tim and Roberta McCune

The recipients receive a plaque, $50 and a free camp registration for the next camp season.  In addition, their names are added to the plaques that hang in the state office and at Arrowpeak Camp.

Youth Service Awards also were presented to six youth who have participated in Farmers Union and their communities.  The 2007 recipients are:

Pre-junior:  Karra Lohr and Kelsyn Lohr, Shelby

Junior:  Cory Kelly, Erik Kelly, Chester; and Klayton Lohr, Shelby

Senior:  John Kelly, Chester

The Lohrs are the children of Kirby and Kelli Lohr.  The Kellys are the children of Charlotte and Ed Kelly.
