Montana Farmers Union Youth Elected to National Advisory Council

GREAT FALLS, MT (July 19, 2007) – More than 80 young Farmers Union members from seven states, including two from Montana, participated in the National Farmers Union All-States Leadership Camp July 8-14, at the organization’s education center in Bailey, Colo.

At the conclusion of the camp 40 campers ran for seats on the National Youth Advisory Council (NYAC), with eight being elected.  Andrew Bishop, Brady, Montana, was one of the successful candidates.  Bishop graduated from Dutton/Brady High School and plans to attend the University of Montana Tech in Butte, where he will major in mathematics and engineering and also will play college football for the Orediggers.  Bishop lives on a fourth generation grain farm east of Brady with his parents, Todd and Tedi Bishop, sister, Raelee and grandmother, Doris Bishop

The NYAC represents Farmers Union’s next generation at the organization’s national convention.  They also choose a theme and plan activities for the following year’s All-States Camp where they help lead discussions on a variety of topics.  Other Montana attendees included outgoing NYAC member Brice Courtnage, Geraldine.

Throughout the week campers developed new friendships while strengthening their cooperative and leadership skills through discussions and recreational activities.  Farmers Union members between 17 and 22 years of age who have excelled in Farmers Union state youth education programs and have met state and national eligibility requirements are eligible to attend NFU All-States Leadership Camp.
