Montana Farmers Union Scholarship Recipients Announced

 

GREAT FALLS, MT  (July 8, 2009) – The Montana Farmers Union (MFU) recently awarded six $500 scholarships to high school seniors and current college students to further their education.  Recipients were judged on scholastic achievement, school, community and Farmers Union involvement. 

 

Receiving the Montana Farmers Union scholarship, awarded to graduating seniors, were Larissa Donahue, Great Falls; and John Kelly, Chester.  Donahue graduated from Great Falls High School and plans to attend the Montana State University Honors College in Bozeman as a Provost Scholar, majoring in biochemistry.  She is the daughter of Will and Janet Donahue.  Kelly graduated from Chester High School and plans to attend University of Montana-Tech in Butte, studying chemistry and computer science.  He is the son of Ed and Charlotte Kelly.

 

Shay Scribner, Geraldine, received the Chouteau County Farmers Union $500 scholarship, which is awarded to a graduating senior.  Scribner plans to attend the University of Montana, College of Technology in Missoula, pursuing a career in surgical technology.  She is the daughter of J.R. and Robyn Scribner.

 

Receiving the Bud Daniels Memorial Scholarship was Andrew Bishop, who is studying mechanical engineering at the University of Montana-Tech, and plays football for the Orediggers.  This scholarship is for students who are sophomores or above attending a Montana higher education facility.  Bishop is the son of Todd and Tedi Bishop, Brady.

 

New this year is the John Korsbeck Memorial Scholarship, awarded to students of any age furthering their education in Montana.  Recipients this year are Valerie Lucas, Lewistown, a life-long learner who is working toward an education degree at Montana State University-Northern; and Kevin Tweten, who is working toward an environmental engineering degree from University of Montana-Tech.  He is the son of James and Ella Tweten, Nashua.
