MFU Offers $2,500 in Scholarships for 2008

GREAT FALLS, MT (Jan. 28, 2008) – The Montana Farmers Union (MFU) is offering a total of five educational scholarships of $500 each to be awarded to deserving Montana Farmers Union members.

As in years past, the Montana Farmers Union state office will present two scholarships, and the Chouteau County Farmers Union and the Flathead County-wide Local Farmers Union will present one scholarship each.  These scholarships will be awarded to graduating high school seniors to further their education.  Recipients will be judged on scholastic achievement, school, community and Farmers Union involvement and an essay.  The application deadline is May 1, 2008.

An additional scholarship – the Bud Daniels Memorial Scholarship – awards $500 in memory of Bud Daniels (1928-2000), who served as Montana Farmers Union president from 1989-1993, and was National Farmers Union vice president in 1992.

The Bud Daniels scholarship is for students who are sophomores or above attending a Montana university, college or vocational technical college.  The application deadline is June 12, 2008.

Scholarship applications are available from the Montana Farmers Union state office, and information is also available on the web site:  www.montanafarmersunion.com

All scholarship applications must be sent to and approved by the Montana Farmers Union Education Committee and must be received by the MFU office by the stated deadlines in order to be considered.
