Oilseed Production, Crushing, Processing and Biodiesel Production Workshop

 

Montana Farmers Union is a co-sponsor of a oilseeds and biodiesel workshop on Thursday, February 15, 2007, from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm at the Hampton Inn, 2301 14th Street SW, in Great Falls.  The cost of the workshop is $15 per participant and includes lunch.  Pre-registration is encouraged.  The deadline to pre-register is February 12.  Other sponsors include the National Center for Appropriate Technology (NCAT), AERO, MSU Extension, Department of Environmental Quality, the Montana Grain Growers Association, the Northern Ag Network, and the Natural Resources Conservation Services.

 

Those who attend this workshop will learn more about:

 

  • Oilseed crops that can be used for a range of products (such as lubricants, culinary oils or biodiesel);

 

  • On-farm production and/or personal use of biodiesel and its co-products;

 

  • Markets and buyers’ expectations for oilseed crops.

 

Topics that will be covered include oilseed production, crushing and processing; biodiesel quality issues; small scale and commercial biodiesel production and market trends in oilseeds and co-products.  Several experts on these topics will speak and be on hand for questions.  Workshop attendees will also receive a range of educational materials to take home after the event.
