MFU Members Travel to National Farmers Union Convention

GREAT FALLS, MT (March 4, 2011) – Montana Farmers Union (MFU) President Alan Merrill and 16 MFU members will travel to the National Farmers Union convention in San Antonio, Texas, being held March 13-16, 2011.

The group includes six delegates who will help shape the direction of the organization’s national public policy. Delegates include Brett Dailey, Jordan, MFU board representative; Erik Somerfeld, Power, MFU board representative; Kathy Courtnage, Geraldine; Lynnette Downs, Molt; Kristie Rutledge, Big Sandy; and Briana Green, Highwood, youth delegate. Dan Downs, Molt, will sit on the NFU Policy Committee.

“We are looking forward to helping shape the policy discussion at the national organization level,” said Merrill.

Other MFU members joining President Merrill at the convention include: Bill Courtnage, Geraldine; Donna Dailey, Jordan; Lorrie Merrill, Big Sandy; Henry and Vanette Nagamori, Loma; Nathan and Mary Merrill, Big Sandy, FUE Young Couple representatives; Sonny Harrell, MFU Education Director; and Aeric Reilly, MFU Membership Director and Assistant Lobbyist.

Educational workshop topics at the convention include discussions about the Farm Bill and Perspectives on the 112th Congress; the role of biotechnology in the 21st century; the state of U.S. trade relations; and a discussion on what sustainability means for farmers and ranchers.
