MFU Comments on Court Upholding Affordable Care Act
GREAT FALLS, MT (June 28, 2012) – Montana Farmers Union (MFU) President Alan Merrill issued the following statement in support of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decisions to uphold the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
“In accordance with current Montana Farmers Policy that ‘…urges the Congress of the United State to enact comprehensive health care reform that provides all American citizens an affordable public option’ it appears that the decision by the U.S. Supreme Court today allows a national health care plan to move forward.’
“Montanans across the state, including its farmers and ranchers, face significant obstacles when trying to access affordable health care from the individual market. The ACA measures should help those individuals and families who are having difficulty accessing comprehensive, affordable care. In addition, the ACA provides rural health care resources where needed, and prohibits health care companies from denying coverage to individuals with preexisting conditions.’
“Further, the law closes the Medicare prescription drug coverage ‘donut hole,’ which will benefit many Montana seniors.”
