MFU Applauds Senator Baucus’ Appointment to ‘Super Committee’

GREAT FALLS, MT (August 10, 2011) – The Montana Farmers Union offers its congratulations to Senator Max Baucus for his appointment to the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction that will recommend budgetary adjustments to address our nation’s deficit.

“We feel that Senator Baucus’ positions on the Senate Finance Committee and Agriculture Committee makes him particularly well situated to consider the needs of Montanans,” said MFU President Alan Merrill. “It is our hope that the Senator’s ties to agriculture will help him steer the committee toward a balanced approach when considering agriculture’s needs.”

“Further,” said Merrill, “it is MFU’s hope that the ‘Super Committee’ will hold hearings or take recommendations from standing committees when putting its budgetary recommendations together.”
